Cosmetic Surgery Procedures Explained
Cosmetic Surgery is getting more and more popular every year and people are even having procedures done in their work lunch breaks to try and help keep them looking young and fresh...
Here are a list of some of the top cosmetic surgery procedures which people are embarking upon and a little about what they involve...
Breast Uplift
Many women don't feel that they need larger breasts but would just rather their breasts didn't sag or droop as much, this may be due to pregnancy or just due to general aging..
A breast uplift is more commonly known as a Mastopexy and is a procedure carried out to lift and re shape the breasts, this is a very popular procedure and women feel it is something that will help them to regain their youth.
Breast uplift surgery involves removing a small amount of skin from underneath the breast or from around the areola. The skin and tissue of the breast is then tightened and the nipple is moved to a higher position to give a more firm and youthful appearance. Dissolvable stitches are used and these usually disappear within 10-12 days. You will need to wear a good support bra for approximately 4 weeks after the procedure has been carried out and you will be on strong painkillers for the first week, this will be reduced on the second week. Recovery time is usually about 6 weeks but this varies greatly from patient to patient.
Breast Enlargement
Breast enlargement is a very popular procedure... Many women feel their breasts are too small, this may be due to a loss in weight, low weight or pregnancy.
Breast implants are usually made of silicone or salt water and are usually placed under the breast tissue just in front of the chest pectoral (muscle)
Breast enlargement surgery usually takes between one and two hours. Your surgeon will make small incisions in the skin on your breast, the position of the cut varies and this is discussed at the time of the consultation.Your surgeon will then make a space big enough for the implant and will place the implant underneath the breast tissue. The surgeon will then close the cut with stitches and wrap the breasts in a dressing and support bra.
Recovery time is usually 4 to 6 weeks but again varies from patient to patient.
Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty is a procedure which is carried out to reshape the nose.. Patients may choose to have their nose straightened, a bump on the bridge lowered and smoothed, the nasal tip made to look more refined, the space between the upper lip and the tip to be altered etc etc.
I would advise you do your research as some surgeons are better at rhinoplasty than others......
As there are many ways in which rhinoplasty can be carried out and can be discussed at the time of the consultation.
Recovery time is usually between 4 to 6 weeks but varies from patient to patient.
Liposuction
Liposuction is a surgical procedure that vacuums out fat deposits from under the skin on specific areas of the body through small incisions in the skin. It is the most popular cosmetic procedure carried out in the US today.
Liposuction is a procedure used to change the body's contours and also the shape.
Liposuction is not a quick fix method for loosing weight but is rather a way of enhancing the patients body shape and helping to make the body look more refined, it is a procedure best carried out on people with a near ideal body weight.
The most common areas to have liposuction are on the buttox and thighs, the hips, tummy, upper arms and on the neck area.
Recovery time is usually 8 to 10 weeks but varies.
Eyelid Surgery (Blephs)
The natural aging process and sun damage can make the eye area appear saggy and less taught over time...blepharoplasty is used to remove wrinkled and drooping skin from the upper eye area or from underneath the eyes. The result is a more younger, more awake and youthful appearance.
For upper eyelid surgery an incision is made in the natural fold of the eyelid, through this incision fatty tissues and skin are removed. Because of where the incision is made it will be well hidden and camouflaged.
For lower eyelid surgery an incision is hidden just underneath the lower lashes. Through this incision excess skin and fat are removed.
The operation takes between 1-2 hours to perform and it usually takes between 2 to 3 weeks for the swelling to be reduced and for the patient to start seeing results.
If you are considering a surgical or non-surgical procedure it is very important that you consider your reasons for wanting the procedure, your expectations of the results the procedure may bring, as well as making sure that you have all of the information you need to make a properly informed decision about whether you should go ahead with it.
